Karl Wetter

November 8, 1929 ~ August 25, 2017 (age 87) 87 Years Old

A Celebration of Life of Karl Wetter, age 87, will be held on Saturday, September 9, 2017 at 10:00 AM at the Plummer Bible Church.   Pastor Wayne Eve will officiate at the service.  Urn burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Plummer.  Mr. Wetter passed away peacefully in his sleep on Friday, August 25th at Life Care Center in Post Falls, ID from cancer.

Karl Wetter was born November 8, 1929 at Tekoa, WA to Ferdinand and Hedwig (Zellweger) Wetter.  The family moved from Tekoa to Plummer in 1931.  Karl attended Plummer schools, graduating from Plummer High School in 1949.    Following high school, Karl attended the University of Idaho where he graduated with honors in 1954.  He earned a bachelor’s degree in Industrial Arts, History, and Physical Education.

Karl married Claudia Jean Stender on June 11th, 1954 at the Fairfield Presbyterian Church and the couple made their home at Plummer.   In August of 1954, he was drafted into the United States Army and served in the Army of Occupation in Germany until June of 1955.  Following his military service, he returned to Plummer.

Karl taught school 1 year in St. Maries in 1955, then taught at Plummer High School from 1957 – 1970, then 1980 – 1990 when he retired from teaching.  He taught for 23 years in Plummer, teaching government, history, and industrial arts.  Karl also maintained a farm and ranch while he was teaching.

He was a member of the Plummer Bible Church, the Plummer Community Action Team, and a former Plummer Grange member.  His hobbies included many outdoor activities including gardening, hiking, logging, and building things he needed.   Karl enjoyed writing and poetry, cooking, sports, oil painting & photography, and local and family history.  He was a father, grandfather, provider, teacher, mentor, coach, and builder.

Survivors include his wife Claudia at the Plummer home, his children, Timothy Wetter of Roseville, CA, Jody (Gary) Williams of Grapevine, Texas, and Roger Wetter of Plummer, ID;    Grandchildren, Kristen Wetter and Daniel Wetter.   Also surviving is a sister, Rosemarie Jones of Spokane Valley, WA, and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by brothers Hans, Nicklaus, Paul, Walter, and Frederick Wetter, and sisters Margaret Reynolds, Gertrude Reeder, Martha Soderstrom, and Elizabeth Resta; and a daughter-in-law, Cara Wetter.

Memorial gifts may be given to Plummer Bible Church, Life Care Center of Post Falls, or Hospice of North Idaho at Hayden.  The family would like to thank the staff at Life Care Center of Post Falls for his excellent care.
