MARIE IRENE (SELTICE) LOWLEY

A Mass of Christian Burial for Marie Irene Lowley, age 100, will be held Wednesday, July 11, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at the Rose Creek Longhouse in Worley, Idaho.   Rosary will be held Tuesday evening at 7:00 p.m. at the longhouse.   Father Robert Erickson will officiate at the services and burial will follow at the DeSmet Mission Cemetery at DeSmet, Idaho.   Irene, the oldest member of the Coeur d’Alene Tribe, passed away Friday at her home in Worley, Idaho.

She was born October 6, 1917 at DeSmet, Idaho to Joseph and Lucy Camille Seltice.   She attended schools at DeSmet, Andrew Springs Country School, and Tekoa High School.   Irene married Raymond Lowley on May 2, 1949 and the couple made their home at Tensed, Idaho where they raised their family.    Her husband Raymond passed away on June 13, 1955.  She continued to live in Tensed until moving to Worley, Idaho in the 1980’s.

Irene was a homemaker for most of her life, but did work for the Coeur d’Alene Tribe helping to preserve the native Coeur d’Alene language.    She was the oldest member of the Coeur d’Alene Tribe.

She was a member of the Coeur d’Alene Tribe, a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, and a member of the Katary Guild of the Catholic Church.

Survivors include her children, Stan Lowley of Tensed, Idaho, Raymond Lowley Jr. of Welpinit, Washington, ReaAnn Thompson of Spokane, Washington, Kae Mae Lowley of Plummer, Idaho , Lynn Lowley of Plummer, Idaho, Geraldine Parr of Worley, Idaho, and Ed Lozeau of Tensed, Idaho;  30 grandchildren, 58 great grandchildren, and 15 great great grandchildren. 

She was preceded in death by two children, Joseph Lowley and Connie Arthur, and by her brothers and sisters, Herman and Pete Seltice, Marcelene Kevis and Clara Sherwood.
