Funeral services for Dorothy E. Hansen, age 99, will be held Monday, September 12, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at the Tekoa Community Church in Tekoa, WA.   Pastor Kathy Lee Kramer will officiate at the service.  A private family burial will be held at Goldenrod Cemetery in Tekoa.  Mrs. Hansen passed away Monday, September 5, 2016 at Cherished Acres Estates in Auburn. 

Dorothy E. McHargue was born on January 13, 1917 at Tekoa, Washington to Milton and Amanda (Sturgil) McHargue, one of nine children in the family.  She attended schools in Tekoa, graduating from Tekoa High School in 1935.    Following high school, Dorothy attended Deaconess Hospital School of Nursing in Spokane, receiving her nursing degree in 1938.  She completed her post graduate work at the University of Illinois in Chicago.

Dorothy married Norman Hansen on December 31, 1942 at Fairfield, Washington.   The couple made their home near Tekoa where they farmed and raised their family in the Lone Pine District.  Her husband Norman died in August of 1972.  Dorothy continued to make her home on the farm near Tekoa, but moved to Auburn, Washington in 2011 to be near her daughter.

She was a member of the Tekoa Community Church, Chapter AT, P.E.O., Tekoa, and a former member of the Tekoa Grange.

Survivors include her daughter, Janet (Eric) Schneider of Auburn, Washington, her son, Larry (Joyce) Hansen of Plummer, Idaho; six granddaughters, Jennifer (Dave) Wellman of Lake Stevens, WA, Heather (Jon) Cullom of Auburn, WA, Megan (Chris) Wiegand of Portland, OR, Amber (Ryan) Duffy of Kirkland, WA, Sarah Hansen of Laguna Hills, CA, and Karena (Brendan) von Doehren of Jacksonville, FL;  7 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband Norman, and her eight siblings, Pearl Rochat, Ella Petow, Nora Cain, Grace Carlson, Betty Beach, Lottie McHargue, Vera Carlson, Minnie Thomas, and Charles McHargue.
