Garland Elmer “Gary” Hopkins, age 80, passed away Friday, November 11, 2016 at the Tekoa Care Center in Tekoa, WA from age related causes.
He was born September 26, 1936 at Spokane, Washington to Garland L. and Eva (Smith) Hopkins. His father was in the Navy, and his family moved to several navy bases on the east and west coast. He attended most of his schooling in San Diego, California. Following high school, he attended college for 2 years. Gary had also served in the National Guard for nine years.
In the 1980’s, Gary moved to Spokane, and later settled in Chattaroy, Washington in 1983. Gary married Betty L. Clark on August 18, 1990 at Chattaroy, and the family has made their home there since. Gary had worked as a brake mechanic for Sears Automotive for 28 years prior to his retirement.
Gary attended the Latter Day Saints Church at Riverside. He enjoyed working with wood, and had refinished several smaller items.
Survivors include his wife Betty at the family home; one son, Raymond Hopkins of (Oregon); three stepchildren, Debra Lynn Martin of LaPuente, California, Denise Ranee Valade of Spokane, Washington, and Walter Robert Jones of Chattaroy, Washington. Also surviving are three grandchildren, Matthew, Lance, and Lucas Hopkins, a brother Dennis Hopkins of Spokane Valley, WA.
A memorial service will be held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 34221 N. Newport Hwy, Chattaroy, Washington on Saturday, December 3, 2016 at 1:00 P.M. Bishop Ryan Bates will officiate at the service.
