Funeral services for Henry M. “Hank” Larson, age 75, will be held Saturday, February 4, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church at DeSmet, Idaho. Father Robert Erickson will officiate at the service. A reception will follow the service. Mr. Larson, a lifelong area resident, passed away Saturday evening at his rural DeSmet home. A graveside service will be held at Fairview Cemetery in Rockford, WA at a later date.
Henry Michael Larson was born July 17, 1941 at Tekoa, Washington to Vernon Larson Sr. and Blanche (Pfeifer) Larson. Henry was raised on the family farm south of DeSmet with his brother and two sisters. Hank attended schools in Plummer, Idaho where he graduated from high school in 1960. In high school, Henry played football and basketball. He had also participated in the F.F.A. program.
Following high school, Henry went to work with his father and brother, operating the family farm. Henry married Marilyn Sturman in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho on December 11, 1963, and the couple made their home south of DeSmet in a house which he built for Marilyn. Henry later drove truck for Kraft Foods for a few years, and then worked logging with his son Larry, operating the Old Farm Tree Service. Henry also raised Christmas trees for several years. Henry semi-retired in 2010.
Henry and Marilyn enjoyed traveling and have been snowbirds for the last several years. Mr. Larson had served on the Plummer High School Board from 1976 – 1980. He was an avid NASCAR fan, and had attended several races in Florida at Daytona. Henry enjoyed snowmobiling in his younger years.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Marilyn at the family home; one son Henry C. (Stacia) Larson of Englewood, FL, daughter Stacy Lynn Trenkle of Englewood, FL, and daughter Stephanie (Valentine) Mokry of Coeur d’Alene, ID; brother Vern Larson Jr. of DeSmet, sister Norma Willms of Post Falls, ID, and sister Mary (Robert) Lewis of Everett, WA; 15 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his son Larry M. Larson, and two grandchildren Aaron LaSarte and Logan Trenkle.
