A Mass of Christian Burial for Sophia George, age 27, will be held Friday, July 31, 2020 at 10:00 A.M. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church at DeSmet, Idaho. Rosary will be held Thursday evening at 7:00 P.M. at the Evan Abraham Tribal Longhouse at DeSmet. Burial will follow at the DeSmet Mission Cemetery. Sophia passed away Friday night at Sacred Heart Medical Center in Spokane, Washington.
She was born May 15, 1993 at San Jose, California to Michael George and Theresa LaSarte. She moved to DeSmet, Idaho with her mother in 1999 when she was 6 years old. Sophia attended the Tribal School at DeSmet, then started high school at Plummer, Idaho. She later completed her GED.
Sophia started working floor maintenance at the Coeur d’Alene Casino in 2012, but became disabled following an auto accident. She has been living in DeSmet with her mother who was her caregiver.
She was a member of the Colville Tribe of Indians, and a descendant of the Coeur d’Alene Tribe. She was also a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church at DeSmet.
Sophia loved movies and hanging out with her caregiver Rose Bolyard.
Survivors include her mother Theresa LaSarte and step-father Jose Medrano of DeSmet, her father Michael George of Plummer, ID, her brother Michael George of DeSmet, sisters Jennifer George of Tensed, Mary George of Coeur d’Alene, and Andrea George of DeSmet, step brother Christopher Skwanqhqn of Worley, step brother Enrique Medrano of Coeur d’Alene, numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins, and a Goddaughter, Mataya George of DeSmet, ID.
