A Mass of Christian Burial for Veronica Jean Torpey, age 56, will be held Tuesday, June 19, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at the Rose Creek Longhouse at Worley, Idaho. Father Bob Erickson will officiate at the services and burial will follow at St. Michael’s Cemetery at Worley. Rosary will be held Monday evening, June 18th at 7:00 p.m. at the Rose Creek Longhouse at Worley. Veronica Torpey passed away June 15, 2018 at Kootenai Health in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho.
Veronica Jean Keyonnie was born at Ganado, Arizona on December 23, 1961 to Harvey and Bessie (Begay) Keyonnie. She attended schools in Arizona and was raised on the Navajo Reservation. Following her schooling, Veronica enlisted in the United States Navy. While serving as a Navy cook in San Diego, California, she met Ronald George Torpey, Jr., a Navy Seabee, and the couple was married on June 13, 1981.
Following their military service, the couple moved to Plummer, Idaho in 1981. They have lived in the Plummer area since. Veronica worked as a probate clerk for the Tribal Land Services office in Plummer.
She was a member of the Navajo Tribe in Arizona, and a member of the Catholic Church.
Survivors include her husband George Torpey Jr. of Plummer, a step-son Ronald (Krista) Torpey III, a daughter, Tillie Torpey, her grandchildren, Mus Torpey, Jayda Torpey, Brody Torpey, and Syenkwnm. Also surviving are her siblings; her sister Chlotiea Jean Keyonnie, and her brother, Adrian Loren Keyonnie, both of Arizona; and many extended family from Idaho and Arizona.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Harvey and Bessie Keyonnie, and a brother, Juan Diego Keyonnie, and her son Samuel Torpey.
