Funeral services for Wana Smith, age 82, will be held Saturday, February 11, 2017 at 11:00 A.M. at the Sanders Community Church in Sanders, Idaho.  Pastor Daniel Willms and Father Robert Erickson will officiate at the service.   Burial will follow at the Sanders Cemetery.   Wana Smith passed away Monday night at the Schneidmiller House in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho.

Wana Aceves was born at Rio Grande City, Texas on November 8, 1934.  Her mother, Marie Aceves was a member of the Apache Indian Tribe in Texas.    Wana worked in the farm fields in Texas as a young child, and had no formal schooling.

On May 26, 1952, Wana married Archie Harrison Smith, and the couple moved north to Montana.  They settled in the Sanders, Idaho area in 1960, and built their home and raised their family.  Wana was a homemaker and Archie was a rancher.    The couple raised three children, Evelyn, Archie Jr., and Harry.  Her husband Archie died in 1989.   She continued the make her home on Sanders Road.

Wana was a member of the Catholic Church.  A hard worker all of her life, she always grew a large garden, and raised cattle and chickens.  Wana also was a caregiver to several people over the years.

Survivors include two children, Evelyn Rohn of Potlatch, Idaho and Harry Smith of Tensed, Idaho; 10 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband Archie Smith Sr. in 1989, and her son, Archie Smith Jr. in 2015.
