Dr. Evan Woods, DDS

A graveside memorial service for Dr. Evan Woods, DDS will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 7 at the Goldenrod Cemetery in Tekoa.  Dr. Woods passed away on December 14, 2016 in Auburn, Washington.

Evan was born in Tekoa, Washington, the youngest of five children.  During his high school years he excelled in baseball, football basketball and was honored by being selected to the National "Who's Who in High School Athletics" his senior year.  After high school graduation he attended Washington State University where he joined the Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity.  He was made Song Leader of the fraternity, the knack for singing served him all his life.  While at WSU he was chosen Outstanding ROTC Cadet for the university.  After graduation he was accepted and enrolled at Northwestern University School of Dentistry in Chicago, Illinois.  He and his wife Mary Ann lived in Glen Ellyn, Illinois in the carriage house on the old estate of the mistress of the owner of Morton Salt, and then owned by Jim and Patia Parker.  They lived there for 4 years helping with the yard work, doing odd jobs and watching over the Parker children.  Evan traveled by train each day to school, arriving home late at night. After graduation from Northwestern with a Doctorate in Dental Surgery. Evan served his time in the United States Army Dental Corp and was stationed at Fort Ord, California where he rose to the rank of Captain.  

During the last few months of his tour of duty with the Army he traveled to many spots in the state of Washington to find a location to set us his dental practice.  Enumclaw, Washington, with all its natural beauty, (and golf course), was the place he decided to locate. He went into partnership with Dr. Ralph Reed and was there for several years before purchasing his own building and starting his own practice.

He raised three of his children in Enumclaw. After Evan and Mary Ann divorced he married Donna Lundstrom and moved to Greenwater, near Crystal Mountain Ski Resort.  Donna and Evan had two children, Chelsea and Isaac. After Evan retired in 1998 they lived winters in California and summers in Redondo, on the shores of the Puget Sound.

His love of the outdoors led him to summit all the major peaks in the Pacific Northwest. He loved to hike ski, hike, sail, read and spend all of the time he could with his family.  An avid traveler, he visited many parts of the world including Europe, Japan, Hong Kong and Peru.  His cultural interests ranged from being an avid fan of the opera (a season ticket holder to Seattle Opera’s Ring Cycle) to a season ticket holder to the Seahawks. He danced in the Cascadia Ballet Company’s production of The Nutcracker with his daughter Chelsea.  He was a member of the Democratic Party, the American Civil Liberties Union and the Washington State Dental Society.

Survivors include his wife Donna of Des Moines; his children, Anthony (Luzma) Woods of Lima, Peru, Patia (Peter) Woods of Seattle, Cara (Dan) Berggren of Federal Way, Chelsea (Jess) Crosby of Seattle, Isaac (Kay) Woods of Renton and two grandchildren, Kendra and Samantha.  Also surviving is a sister, Joyce Walters of Seattle and his first wife, Mary Ann St. Louis of Renton.

Dr. Woods was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Warren Woods, and two sisters, Karolle Cavender and Audree Schutz along with his granddaughter, Madison Grace Berggren.

The family wishes to thank the doctors, nurses and staff of Garden Terrace Health Care Center of Federal Way for the care given him during his period of convalescence.  Kramer Funeral Home of Tekoa is caring for the family.
